The Earl of Harrington’s Angling Club is a not-for-profit organisation and we run the club solely for our members. The Club was created by the then Earl of nearby Elvaston Castle in 1912 and he was Chairman of the Club.  His Estate included much of the River Derwent to the south of Derby around Borrowash.  Our river fishery now extends from some 2 miles north of Derby, above the weir at Darley Abbey, downstream to Borrowash, some 5 miles south of the city.

The river offers all aspects of coarse fishing from fast gravelly shallows (specimen chub and barbel) to deep slow stretches (bream, roach, perch, pike, carp) and grayling, brown trout and dace are caught throughout.  Double figure barbel, 5lbs+ chub, 8lbs+ bream, double figure pike and 3lbs+ perch are not unusual and anglers targeting any of these specimens stand a very high chance of success.  The river also holds river carp and tench which are more difficult to target.

Besides the river, the Club owns Derwent Valley Fishery at Darley Abbey, Derby.  At the fishery we have 2 still waters – the main lake Haslams is a specimen carp lake and only available on a Premium Ticket and Woodrow’s Pond, available to Season Ticket Holders (No day tickets).

We also control 5 Council still waters across Derby.  These are Allestree Park Lake, Markeaton Park Lake, Mill Dam, Alvaston Park Lake and Heatherton Pond, Littleover, Derby. All of these waters can be fished on a Season Ticket or a Day Ticket (both sunrise – sunset) – If you wish to night fish these waters (under strict rules), a limited number of Premium Tickets are available (now sold out for 18/19 Season and waiting list in place). You can also purchase an add-on night permit, in addition to the Season Ticket for Markeaton, Alvaston and Heatherton Pond (limited tickets).

A new addition to our waters for 2017 is Farnah Lake near Duffield, part of the Kedleston Estate.  This is Season Ticket Only.

Access to all waters is excellent, with a hard surface track to virtually all the river for easy trolley access and strategically sited car parks both public and private (key required) exist.

The Club offers a very competitively priced Season Ticket and also Day Ticket Permits for our river stretches and Council Still Waters. It also offers Members Matches alongside Open Matches throughout the season plus a ‘Winter League’.  Match bookings from other Clubs are most welcome.
